Invariably the first
question people ask me is "where are you going
on vacation next?" This is because I go to a a wide
variety of places. When thinking about vacation, it is the first question
people generally ask themselves is “Where should I (we) go?” When
in actuality the first question they should be asking themselves is “How do I
want to spend my vacation”?
The answer to this question will help answer the other. Don’t believe me? Here are a few answers I got when I asked
people how they wanted to spend their vacation:
- Laying on the beach doing nothing
- Seeing Macchu Picchu
- Drinking wine in Italy
- Building a Habitat for Humanity house
- Disney
- See a new State
Now that is not to say that some of these things cannot be combined – for
example 1 the beach and 3 wine in Italy, but WHAT you want to do on vacation is
more important than where.
Should you not be traveling alone, it also is important that you and
your traveling companion(s) are all thinking the same thing about how you are
going to spend your vacation. If you say
to someone, Let’s go to Florida, depending on who they are it may conjure
images of Disney, Miami Beach, Daytona or the Keys .
Of course there is nothing that says you can only do one thing on
vacation, but just be sure that everyone who is traveling together has the same
agenda, or is capable and willing to strike out on their own. It will make the vacation much more pleasant.
